Yes, a moderator can add characters or relationships that are missing from the fanwork submission form. When posting your fanwork, use the Moderator Request field and enter the character(s) and/or relationship(s) you need. Only moderators can view this field. When you add your fanwork to the archive, the site will email the moderator team to alert them of your request, and a moderator will update the list on the archive, then add the missing character(s) and/or relationship(s) to your fanwork.
Before you make your request, make sure you are looking for the correct name on the list. Silmarillion characters often have several names. Characters from The Silmarillion are listed by the name indexed in the "Index of Names." For example, Fëanor's oldest son would be listed under Maedhros, not Maitimo, Nelyafinwë, Nelyo, or Russandol. Characters who don't appear in The Silmarillion are listed by what Christopher Tolkien presents as the finalized form of their name. Salmar from The Book of Lost Tales, for example, is listed under Salmar, not his older name Noldorin.
We will add characters from The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and Tolkien's other works. Simply request these characters using the Moderator Request field.
We will add only canon characters from Tolkien's works. Creators who use original characters or characters from other texts should use one or more of the following options found on the list:
- Historical Character(s)
- Legendary/Mythical Character(s)
- Original Character(s)
- Original Female Character(s)
- Original Male Character(s)
- Original Nonbinary Character(s)
- Other Fictional Character(s)
- Real Person(s)
- Setting as Character
If you are posting nonfiction or meta, we will also add topics to the Topics list. Again, use the Moderator Request field.
Other tag sets, such as Genre, we do not tend to update by request. If you feel that an important tag is missing, you can contact us, and we will take your request under consideration.
