I love this story!  I've reread it several times over the years and was thrilled to see it here.  I see this as a brilliant snapshot of where these characters are at this moment in time, as well as a poignant look at where they've come from and where they are headed.  Once close friends seperated by politics and distance, but still reading one another very well and able to work together despite everything.  Maedhros will fall much further after this meeting, but even here he sees how far he has fallen and fully acknowledges the trouble he and his brothers have caused - and yet presses onwards.  And, of course, to hear Finrod's philosophical theories expounded upon by a drinking Fingon is priceless.
