That the fate of man is irony?
Where was it written,
That the soul of him is jealousy?
Where was it cried,
That the heart of truth is ignominy?
Where was it sobbed,
That the root of faith is envy?
Where was it told,
That the hand of him is slavery?
Where was it doomed,
That the road of life is infamy?
Clean thy gory hands,
And prepare ye for tomorrow.

Thy stay of grace is done.
Contend ye now in sorrow.
