Chapter 1

Read Chapter 1

Goldgreen stretched out her leafy arms, as if she was trying to lift straight into the air and fly away. Entwives wanted to settle down in gardens and preferred plants to stay put? Not her!

It had taken a long time for her to make up her mind—or perhaps rather to gather courage and admit she had already done so, whether others considered it unnatural or not—but tomorrow she would talk to Treebeard and ask to accompany him, when he left again for the wilds, and also hint, at least, how much her brother would prefer to stay.

Chapter End Notes

100 words in MS Word.

The image prompt showed a (human) girl in a shiny green dress, with wings made out of leafy tree branches.

The title is from the canonical song, from the stanza in which the male Ent praises the charms of the woodland in spring.

My thought was that she did manage to talk to him, but she is not present in Fangorn during the events of LOTR and so we don't see her in the books.

Bunn's request was for First Age or Second Age. Even by Entish standards, that makes for a long time in which a lot could have happened to her. Or maybe she just wandered off somewhere! Or maybe she even found a place with her brother where both their hearts could rest and that wasn't in Valinor, after all!
