I have a weakness for "Why are we whispering", and I think it works very neatly here. Elendil isn't wrong, he can't be sure they're truly alone. It brings across the beauty and power, but also the uncanniness of the Palantíri!

Did Gil-galad not see Eärendil, in the end? That's an interesting idea, that two people can look into the same Palantír and yet not have the same vision. (My other, somewhat naughty thought, was "Good thing you didn't have Elrond with you!") ;)
