Spring in Doriath by Himring

| | |

Fanwork Notes

Written for Narya for a fandomtrees request, an adaptation of William Blake's poem "Spring".

The poem was one the New Year's Resolution challenge prompts for January 4, and was originally from the Utopia/Dystopia challenge.

I don't think of Doriath as Utopia (not after the Girdle was required, anyway, which is when this piece is set), but this is a rather utopian moment, I suppose, nevertheless!

[I, the author, agree for my fic to be read during a SWG live reading session in February 2021.]

Chapter 1

Read Chapter 1

When Daeron sounds the flute,
who could stay mute?
To our delight,
he pipes now day and night.
Now our Nightingale
dances in the dale,
soaring as a lark does in the sky.
Merrily, merrily,
they welcome in the year.

Girl and boy,
are full of joy,
great and small,
Thingol tall—
every voice
makes a glad noise.
Birds also,
woodcock, crow—
merrily, merrily,
we welcome in the year.
