Fair Elwing by Lindariel
Fanwork Notes
This came out of a Lockdown Instadrabbling session on the SWG Discord server, 12 April 2020. The prompts (ocean star song discover) triggered a playback of the Tolkien Ensemble's version of the Song of Eärendil in my head. This is what came out, and it's so different that I thought I'd put it here by itself instead of burying it with my other instadrabbles.
Chapter 1
Read Chapter 1
Fair Elwing in a sea-mew's hame flew up and down the ocean cold
in search of Eärendil's ship, a-bearing of a star so bold.
She cried a song of Silmaril, of dying kin and riches staked,
as ice upon her wings built up and foam upon her beak it caked.
She dived toward the silver planks of Vingilotë's birchen deck.
He took her to his bosom then, until she woke upon his neck
changed back from bird to help him (in her shining Elven form again)
discover Tol Eressëa and bring back hope to Elves and Men.

This is lovely!

Thanks! I love the musical setting of the Tolkien Ensemble, and I've been studying the history and meter of the poem, unique among JRRT's works. I wanted to give that meter a little more exposure.
