Chapter 1

The stars were brighter at Cuivienen's shores, as we woke as children -  fully grown. In our innocence we sang their beauty, finding words that no one taught us. We rejoiced and knew no darkness, no fear.

Then the shadows veiled the stars and we quivered, staring at the power of that which ate the light and we hid; among the rocks of the shore, among the trees in the forest, until the shadows passed and light returned.

It was a different time; of first loves and first terrors, always new and always important. Life was simpler then, at Cuivienen's shores.
