Thanks!  I'm glad the idea made sense to you; it came from me mulling over that bit about 'strange fates' in LACE.  Having a sexuality no one else in your kind shares would certainly provide a good explanation of why Maedhros never married, and it would be hard to see having such a nature as anything other than a curse even in the best of circumstances.  Discovering the fact after the Doom has been uttered - well, it's practically an inevitability that Maedhros would misinterpret matters.

I'm glad you liked it!  I thought giving Maedhros a plausible reason to doubt the Valar's benevolence early on made his later tragic choices much more understandable.
