An eye in a blue face

‘I am not tired of going to and fro above the earth!’ said Arien.

‘But?’ asked Yavanna.

‘Sometimes I wish I could see a face from those low places look back at me. But all turn their eyes away. I understand. They do not wish to be blinded…’

‘Something can be done about that,’ said Yavanna.

‘I am simply too bright!’

‘Come next spring, look down. You will see.’

Arien could not fathom her riddling words, until she looked down out of her high place—and on sunlit lawns saw the faces of a thousand daisies nodding up at her.
