A little jewel

Auburn hair flying
on the light breeze
as she storms into the my smithy,
brown eyes lit with the fires
of joy.

My awkward daughter
with her too long legs,
too skinny body
so far from the beauty
our people hold dear

Yet she comes, shining
with happiness
over a stone, a bauble she found
all black and smooth
and silky to touch.

Who can tell me my child
is not beautiful in her joy
the pureness of life
filling her entire being

I smile as I catch her
hugging her to me
my darling daughter who finds beauty
in the simplest objects

If I could catch her fire into jewels
they could light the world.
she is my inspiration
my daughter
my heart.
