Flight from Nargothrond

Read Flight from Nargothrond

'Hush,' he whispers,
this stranger in my father's colours,
'Still as a mouse.'
The sound of weapons beat to the march
of countless feet.
I try not to breathe. 'Invisible, small as fleas,
not-here,'
my voice a whisper inside the heart.
I wonder where my sister is.
I wonder where we are going.
In the distance
something passes and the wind reeks of fire
and sulphur and evil.
It is dark now
I feel frozen,
numb,
distant.
I no longer wonder
where Finduilas is.
