She knows the King of the West-men would kill her and all her people without a second thought, if he knew what they are. Only the cold makes it possible to hide their faces from the humans.
They have decided long ago not to be drawn into war again. They have chosen this hard life in the North to hide from the King’s Lieutenant — his Eye can not reach them here, he does not know they exist. But fate has drawn them into the conflict anyway. The human king and his soldiers came to ask their help and she had pity on them — call her soft-hearted, but she knows how it is to be hungry. She also feared they’d attack them in their despair and the secret of her people to be discovered all the sooner.
Now the elves have sent a ship to take the men away. She could be rid of them, she should just let them go. But she hears the Witch-king’s malice in the sound of the ice. It cracks. It screams. A sound that brings death. He is not done with the human king.
And she cares, because the West-men stand against the King’s Lieutenant and his armies. She knows in her heart, if the humans fall, his Eye will find them. The humans would kill them, if they knew they are orcs. Gorthaur will make them suffer an eternity for hiding from him.
She starts walking towards the King to warn him.
Written for the Orctober prompt "the ice cracks; it screams"
I've long had the private headcanon that in my AU the Lossoth are orcs who escaped in the War of Wrath and decided to stay away from other people to be able to live in peace.
