Chapter 1
He rushes through the forest, near blind with panic. If only he can run fast enough, perhaps he will finally break free from the strangling grasp of Nan Elmoth. He can no longer hear his mother behind him, but he does not dare stop. Dawn slowly creeps across the horizon. Just a few more steps and he can leave the forest behind. Just a few more steps…
Holy light, oh, burn the night
Oh, keep the spirits strong
Watch it grow, child of woe, oh
Keep holding on
The trees bleed together in front of her eyes. She has been trapped in this labyrinth for years. No matter where she turns, there is no way out. She is a fly in a spider’s web, the huntress reduced to prey. Prayers tumble from her lips, useless though they may be, begging Oromë to keep her son safe, even if it is too late for her now.
And I hope for a trace to lead me back home from this place
But there was no sound, there was only me and my disgrace
