Ages of Farewells
Cirdan stood on the shore watching the grey ship shrink into the distance until it merged with the westering sun. The day had been hot but white clouds drifted in now and a light sprinkle began to fall. Yet even the golden rain couldn't ease the familiar sense of loss filling him once again, as it did each time he bade farewell. Thousands of years. The world was changing yet again, yet here he remained still.
An arm slipped around his waist. Lalwen. He smiled. Another constant over the years.
"Come inside," she said, "I've made your favourite shrimp pies."
Chapter End Notes
I love bunn's headcanon about Cirdan and Lalwen getting together and have adopted it. However this is the first time I've thought of them together in the Third Age at the Grey Havens.
Here are bunn's Cirdan/Lalwen works, which I highly recommend:
Golden Light, the story where things first got going (sneaksy in the background while everyone's focus is on Hador.)
Even the Very Wise, a fourth age story where Lalwen admits to the relationship to Galadriel and Nerdanel.
Use Well the Days, where they negotiate their private relationship.
Flotsam and Jetsam is about Cirdan and Feanor, but includes Cirdan's established relationship with Lalwen when at last they can be public about it in the Fourth Age.
