As I told you after the beta, I love this - in a sad way. Tar-Míriel's sense of isolation and lack of purpose, being no more than a piece of decoration, feels absolutely convincing. In that light, it's so brave of her to dismiss one of the few friends she had at the court, knowing that Azruphel will be safer in Rómenna. I love that the letter also functions as a coded warning, letting Azruphel - and through her, the Faithful - know about the building of the flagships and the guards and investigations. There's a very real atmosphere of fear and oppression, culminating in the warning plume of smoke that rises from the Meneltarma. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your comment and your beta! Yes, definitely brave on Tar-Míriel's part-- and heartbreaking. I think she escaped the worst possibility of what happened to the Faithful because of the veneer of legitimacy her marriage gave Pharazon. But her friend didn't have even that limited protection.
