Call for Contributors: Master Class

Master Class is a monthly column about making fanworks. Note that we define "fanworks" very broadly, with any creative endeavor undertaken by fans that can be applied to the Tolkien fandom adequate for our purposes! Likewise, there is flexibility in the specificity of articles for this column, and a broad "how to get started" column is just as welcome as one that focuses on a specific technique. We welcome articles aimed at an audience at different experience levels. For example, the article could focus on a starter tutorial for someone who has never tried making/doing a particular fanwork, or it could aim at people currently making/doing a type of fanwork who want to expand or improve on their techniques. All formats are welcome, whether written, visual, audio, video, or a multimedia blend of multiple of these.

Requirements:

Master Class should focus on a specific type of fanwork and how to make/do that fanwork or improve/expand one's creation of that type of fanwork. We encourage columnists to think about

  • Audience: Is your article aimed at beginners, people already engaged with this type of fanwork, or skilled practitioners?
  • Format: Will images, audio, or video clarify or enhance the column? The SWG editors are available to provide support in adding multimedia elements to articles.
