I liked this, with how determined and unyielding Haleth is, and how she isn't going to hand over the protection of her people (and their stories) to someone she's just met. I especially liked this line: <em>My people are not servants and I will not be the one to make them bow.</em>

Oh, I love Haleth's thoughts on the ownership of the land. I really like the idea that the Noldor and the Haladin are different not only by their respective (im)mortality, but by their entire philosophy and relationship to nature. I like that Caranthir seems to understand, or at least accept, Haleth's refusal, too. Their entire conversation is a delight to read!
