In this place there is no sunlight, no soft meadows where you lie
Only black and broken stone beneath your back
You have met your end in honour, for the sake of an oath
For a love that was never meant to be
You stood tall and proud and shone, lit this darkness like a flame
And you wounded him which put us both in chains.
Let me scream out my grief, curse to oath which once you swore
For the sake of childish fancies you have diedFatherless but full of hope, came I first into your halls
Begging aid to win the maiden of my heart.
Never doubting once this beggar, laying claim to oath through kin,
You pledged your army and your sword and yourself
And when armies turned aside, when your people reversed their face
You forsook both the kingdom and the crown
So let proud valour be your name, ever faithful, always true
Golden son out of the kingdoms of the west. Now the night it will grow darker, nevermore shall I see light
But as long as I still live I’ll sing your praise
I will raise you up in prayers, beg the gods to bless your way
Claim a brother of a king of elves and men.
And when shadows call my name, when they tear my soul to slaughter
I will sing with every part that still remains
For a foolish dream of love I held I’ve slain my truest friend
For the King and the Dreamer, he is dead.
