Darkened paths
A really short poem about Aredhel's time in Nan Elmoth.
I imagine this pretty much ending just before she meets Eöl for the first time. Maybe I'll get something written for that at one point, too.
It's a fill for ungwë (spider web), though this is a rather metaphorical spider web.
Read Darkened paths
How strange these woods, how dark and cold.
So unlike those I walked in days of old.
No hound or horse are at my side
And if another thing lives here,
in shadows do they hide.
But there! A path! Oh, could it be?
At last a way out of the dark?
Birdsong rings now in my ears,
Dawn’s chorus, oh beloved lark!
Chapter End Notes
I fought hard to get that lark rhyme in there XD I thought it was a nice twist, since dawn is often associated with hope, but in this case everything is about to go very wrong for Aredhel.
Oooh, I like the contrasts…
Oooh, I like the contrasts here, and the contrast in the twist too.

Wrote this on claims night adrenaline 😂
Painfully ironic indeed,…
Painfully ironic indeed, that hopeful ending!
She has not reached the end of her dark path.
yeahhhhh if anything, her…
yeahhhhh
if anything, her path might be getting a lot darker really soon. How dark depends on your interpretation of Eöl's and Aredhel's relationship I suppose
A perfect Nan Elmoth…
A perfect Nan Elmoth atmosphere in this poem, and I think it describes very well the magic of the woods (or Eöl's magic). I love it how in the first part she's all alone and thinks that if there's anyone else in the woods, they're hiding in the shadows. But then she sees a path and hears a pleasant birdsong. It must have felt inviting! Of course she would go that way. I enjoyed this poem very much (and am happy that my photo also gave you inspiration to write).
Thank you so much! My usual…
Thank you so much!
My usual headcanon is that Nan Elmoth has some inherent magic, but Eöl is so attuned to it, he can manipulate it very efficiently.
I'm happy you like the atmosphere! It's fun to write some spooky things, I don't do it often enough.
You really captured it! …
