Menneen Talven Lumia

Hiril is Beren's sister. She appeared on the family tree but nothing else is known about her. Here, I imagine she and few others manage to escape the devastation of the Dagor Bragollach and start making their way south in the hope of finding sanctuary.

After the fires came bitter cold. New snow lay as thick bandage over the wounded land. As the ragged refugees picked their way between beech trees in a stark black and white world, Hiril reflected on the transient nature of life and impermanence of all things, even for the Elves for whom death was not a natural part of life and whose memories of the past, she had heard, were as moments in the present. It seemed to her that the cherished moments of her past life were fading away like melting snowflakes.

As evening came on, bringing soft hues of pinks and blues, she suddenly saw that, even in their grief and struggle, comfort could be found in the melancholic beauty of nostalgia. With renewed vigour, she determined to preserve her people’s history and to honour their traditions. knowing she could cherish what once was while embracing what is.
