Academics are drawn to Tolkien’s work like First Age elves are drawn to shiny rocks. Sometimes I need a break from scholarly writing to, ha, do more scholarly-ish writing but fun and focused on my fave and interesting Silm characters (any Tolkien fic worth its salt has some research out into it!).
