Into the Depths by Zdenka
Fanwork Notes
Originally created for metimauresse's prompt at the fanmixfest DW comm: "Tolkien, any femslash ship, something dark". I'm using the Jubilee challenge as a nudge to go back to the alternate prompt for the Also Appearing challenge and figure out how to post a playlist to SWG.

Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour (Barcarolle) from Les Contes d'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) by Jacques Offenbach
Performed by Anna Netrebko and Elīna Garanča.
Translation by Zdenka:
Beautiful night, O night of love,
smile upon our intoxication!
Night sweeter than the day,
O beautiful night of love!
Time flies and without returning
carries away our tender feelings.
Far from this happy abode
time flies without returning.
Burning zephyrs, lavish your caresses on us,
burning zephyrs, give us your kisses!
Ljóð í sand by Árstíðir
Rusalka, Rusalka/Wild Rushes by The Decemberists
This is a better recording of the song; I didn't put it in the playlist because it's heavily geo-restricted. But if you're in the right geographical region(s), you can give it a try!

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
The Hebrew word hineni, which Cohen uses several times in the song, literally means "Here I am." The implications can include "I am here to accept your will (even if you want me to die)," "I am here to supplicate on behalf of the people even though I feel unworthy and unqualified," "I am here to ask you to have mercy and not destroy us." In the context of this fanmix, I was thinking about Míriel's prayer as she tries to reach the top of Meneltarma for the last time. More about the word hineni can be found here if you're curious. Cohen also quotes from the Jewish prayer recited by those in mourning.
