Fanwork Notes

For the Dark Matter anti-prompts, avoiding:
Motifs and Tropes: just friends (this Andreth and Aegnor never were!)
Literary Techniques: simile (a visual metaphor instead)
Words and Letters: the word "mortal" (I'm not saying anything)

The title is a play on words, since moth means "dusk" in Sindarin.

I headcanon that Andreth's mother was a skilled textile craftsperson, creative with her techniques and unafraid to try out new things. She made this moth cloak for Andreth, which may have been in the back of her mind when she had that chat with Finrod, especially since her mum went beyond the circles of the world when Andreth was very young, as in my ficlet Of Circles and Cycles. (And she's wearing the shoes her mum made for her in my drabble Fabric of Love. She treasured both items and eventually gave them to her niece Bregil, who handed them down to her sisters, Hirwen and Gilwen, in turn. It would be nice to think they somehow survived the flames. Who knows, maybe one day something will turn up, maybe in a drabble...)

Thank you! I had such fun painting her (and of course got lost for ages looking at pictures of moths long after I had plenty for references!) I wanted to try out a two-colour palette and those colours just felt right for a moth!Andreth. So glad you like her!

Thank you, so glad you like her! Her expression look a few tries — my first pencil sketch was chef's kiss, but paintng it was something else. Especially as I'm still figuring out the nuances of watercolour. But I had fun experimenting and I'm happy with how she turned out.
