Nice story. I have no argument with any of your canon interpretation. It sounds plausible to me and I love Sam receiving visions of the evolution of the tree. I've always liked the LotR canon detail that after Bilbo and Frodo, humble Sam, as unlikely it might be to imagine it would be him, is the one among the Hobbits with the most interest and knowledge of the long history of the Elves in Middle-earth dating back to Valinor and before.
