Chapter 1

Song of Fire

Within Eru’s Song of Creation, all were encouraged to Sing.  Each melody was incorporated into the whole that became Eä.  His Song spoke of fire – heat, leaping flames, purifying and tempering.

At Aulë’s forge he found some happiness.  But wishing to hear his Song with more clarity, he joined with Melkor, thinking the brightness of his flame would be more visible against the stygian night of his new Master.

He became a trusted Lieutenant of Morgoth, feared by the Firstborn and carried into legend in their songs and stories.  He wielded his flame and made his name a nightmare – Balrog.
