Fanwork Notes

Many, many thanks to Amy Fortuna, without whose help this fic would be a mess, for beta-reading.

Warnings for discussions of rape and mentions of suicide.

Zirân is 'beloved' in Adûnaic, and while the pattern isn't exactly traditional, there are enough examples in Tolkien that I believe I can get away with this. Meleth is 'love' in Sindarin.

Title and initial quote are from Mary Ruefle's The Voyager. Bold, italic lines are paraphrased from The Silmarillion, and, occasionally, The Line of Elros in Unfinished Tales.

Yestarë is the first day of the year. Funeral and coronation customs draw on some parts of Aldarion and Erendis in Unfinished Tales but are nevertheless mostly my invention.

A lot of timeline twisting and much pulling of Those Pesky Historians (i.e., historians writing things they didn't like out of records), especially in the case of Mírlótë, was involved to make my version of events fit into The Tale of Years, but hopefully this is not AU!

On Halmacil: in my 'verse, he died childless and the King decided to 'award' Amandil Rómenna and use this as an excuse to take Andúnië away from him (again, much twisting involved), so yes, here he's the lord of Rómenna.

órenya ar fëanya is 'my heart and my soul' in Quenya.

On 'bonding': I think I was fairly clear here, but the notes in [SSP alert!] my fic Almarë Eruo explains why this concept is part of my 'verse.

The great-grandmother from Andúnië is, in Míriel's case, Lindórië (whose daughter Inzilbêth was secretly of the Faithful).

Yes, marginalia is the singular of marginalia. I haven't made a mistake.

And I'm sorry for the huge amount of notes; I hope you enjoy this, Sigridhr.
