Fanwork Notes

I let the following prompt bounce around my brain:

"But when all was spoken, Manwë gave judgement, and he said: 'In this matter the power of doom is given to me. The peril that he ventured for love of the Two Kindreds shall not fall upon Eärendil, nor shall it fall upon Elwing his wife, who entered into peril for love of him; but they shall not walk again ever among Elves or Men in the Outer Lands.’" ~ Of the Voyage of Eärendil and the War of Wrath

And this is what came of it...

ahahahah! I love the bathos here! I suspect we've all marvelled at Eönwë's long-wided (albeit beautifully poetic) greeting, and how Eärendil didn't respond by either punching him or at least asking him what the hell he's talking about. And yet, I was caught unaware by the punchline! You've built it up masterfully with Eärendil's musings on fear, on his life, on the strange feeling of returning "home" to a place he's only ever heard stories about, and of recognising both the familiar layout and the uselessness of the decorative walls. I love Eärendil's impatience at the end of the day, as well as him recognising the signs of speechifying! This was a delight.
