Nienor is lost by ford_of_bruinen
Fanwork Notes
For Hrymfaxe who asked for a poem about Mablung, after Niënor has run away from him and the other elves, and he has to return to Doriath and tell the news.
Chapter 1
Read Chapter 1
The lush forest
taunts me
reminds me of how I have failed.
She was meant to be safe here
to stay here
until her mother returned,
and now both mother and daughter
are lost.
I failed
to protect them
the charges of my King
and I return
with news
of loss
and uncertainty
but I swear
I will find the girl
or her fate,
rather than linger here
in the safety of the woods.
The canopy of leaves
feels oppressive
as if there is too little air
let beneath them
punishing me
for my mistakes.
Sweet lady of the woods
forgive me
I will not rest
until I have set things right.
(1) Comment by Robinka for Nienor is lost [Ch 1]
I've been re-reading "The Children of Hurin" recently (for the upteenth time ;)), and when I came across your poem I thought that you did a great job with capturing the moment and Mablung's state of mind. He's such a great, complex and compelling character, and I think you did him justice here. Very well done. I bet Hrymfaxe likes it a lot too :)

Thank you Robinka :) I am very glad you enjoyed the poem. I think this was one of the hardest for me to write because I couldn't get the angle right at first. Thank you very much for reading
*hugs*
