Again I stand on milk-white sands
but these lacks the crystal brilliance
of the land we left. The sea behind me shines a clear azur
a far cry from the midnight darkness
of the western sea. This land is different, shattered, torn
by wars long lost and lands long shifted,
what I knew is gone.I came ashore, alone, unaided
on a ship with neither sail nor oar
manned by only meOn alien shores with death behind me,
a scholar turned warrior, an actor
with no part to play
