Concerning Hobbits

Read Concerning Hobbits

It was one note among many in the Music, but an unexpected, almost whimsical one. It had not been his own, but it delighted him. It resonated, becoming a jaunty trill, moving unhurriedly but purposefully among the others. He took it up. Whoever had first brought it forth, it became part of his theme. He heard a jangling, discordant note, and changed the theme ever so subtly so that trill met discordance head on, met it yet was not mastered by it. He did not sing the rest. That would be a little surprise for his Children – all of them.
