Lunch Break

Read Lunch Break

I sit on a park bench at lunchtime, eating bread with cheese. This terrace garden is my favourite spot. The gilded roof of the House of the Mírdain is visible from here. Sparrows gather around me. Their ancestors came here after the Elves. I always have crumbs for them.

Smoke rises from the chimney. Soon, it is time for me to return to my workshop. We build aqueducts now.

I have taught sparrows to eat from my hand, and they teach their fledglings. They fear me not.

In the Havens of Sirion, we had seagulls instead. They snatched bigger things.

I like this train of thought! I can picture the scenery very well!

But now I am ashamed of exposing my incomplete Silm knowledge- I'm a little worried about what the seagulls were snatching. A ring of power? A shipwright's tool? Someone's hat?
