Oh my! This is just so beautiful, in both imagery and prose. I really enjoy your lyrical lists describing variety. And the concept of coming out of Mandos via his brother'  gardens makes such sense, a kind of gentle easing back into embodiment. And when he's ready, his path leads him directly out. Lovely!

This reminds me a lot of a concept I saw somewhere and have since been turning in my head, where the length of time until re-embodiment is determined by how fast a person finds their way out of the Halls. I love especially the way you highlight the difference between mazes and labyrinths, and what a line to end on! 

The sun-light, star-dark, color bannering the skies of both: night passes, day comes again: the waking world awaits. He took a deep breath and stepped forward to greet it.

That is such a great line!
