Read Nan Elmoth
The cage, with subtle craft designed
And with thy soft caresses gilt;
For ‘ere I knew I was entwined
‘Twas artfully around me built.
With pleasant daydreams all about
I was enticed to stay a while,
And all my obligations flout
To bask instead beneath thy smile.
To those who seek to free me, say:
‘This cage keeps me not locked inside
But holds all miseries at bay!’
And so within I shall abide.
But only if it be with thee,
For here within my heart is free.
Chapter End Notes
The English or Shakespearean sonnet form is comprised of three quatrains and a concluding couplet, rhyming abab cdcd efef gg.
”But only if it be with thee…
”But only if it be with thee,
For here within my heart is free.”
I love this. This last line. They can only be whole together. This says just so much! ❤️

Ah, thank you! It is a bit of a strange story all around, no matter how you look at it. But it was nice to put it into beautiful terms of willingness.
Oh wow! This is masterfully…
Oh wow! This is masterfully woven!
And the idea, in a way, of the rest of the world being in the cage, and them being safe...
Lovely!

A very clever use of the paradox of the cage and it works really well as a sonnet!
