Fanwork Information

Summary:

At the lowest ebb of her fortunes, Morwen was left with only two of her former servants: Sador, who was lame in one foot, and Ragnir, who was blind.
We know she had sometimes been unsympathetic to Sador's failings, until her family changed her mind.
We need not assume she had a similar history with blind Ragnir, though.

A Herb for Ragnir

Read A Herb for Ragnir

‘I am no healer,’ Morwen said. ‘My hands are ungentle.’

Nevertheless, in her garden, she grew a patch of white flowers with yellow centres, bright eyebright to aid Ragnir, whose sight was ailing. Ragnir was serious, diligent, and uncomplaining; his virtues were easier for Morwen to understand than others less in tune with her own view of life.

She silently supported Ragnir in many ways, although she sent others to harvest the eyebright, others to prepare the poultices and apply them.

Thus it came that, in hard times, blind Ragnir was still with her, serving her loyally as he could.

Chapter End Notes

Morwen's words are a twist on Eowyn's warning to Faramir in The Lord of the Rings:
Look not to me for healing! I am a shieldmaiden and my hand is ungentle.
