It took me a little while to think about the logical fallacy, and I think it's that Finrod was projecting his own opinion here, there, and everywhere. Does he KNOW that it would be terrible for Aegnor to be with an old woman? No, he doesn't. He just can't imagine that for himself! Maybe Aegnor is drawn to something deeper.
Go, Andreth! I hope Aegnor welcomes her with open arms and a great sigh of relief.
(This somehow reminded me of this moving poem by Mark McDonnell, Return to Ithaca, which I read recently, although the situation is of course completely different.)
What a lovely poem. That catches the heart of it — if you love a human you have to love the hard parts too. But maybe that’s where true love shines clear.
Oh, this is wonderful. I said 'Ha!' very loudly when reading it, and made my cat jump! Andreth taking matters into her own hands, quite rightly, and Finrod (who I generally love so much) left speechless. Excellent! I love the titles, too.
Next up, Aegnor is so happy to spend time with Andreth that he doesn't even notice her aging until one day she dies peacefully in her sleep, and he carries the memory of his time with her, happily, forever. :D
