He approached the prey licking his nose, knowing he walked like a king who deserved reverence. The man just watched but didn’t back away. This was one stubborn human! Perhaps he, too, was famished?
AU in which Númenor fell long before Ost-in-Edhil.
She fell in the darkness of the forest, a poisoned arrow in her shoulder, her youngest daughter clasped in her arms, and Celeborn likely the one to find them.
But she escaped the Dark Rider, and that was close enough to victory.
After the not so untimely death of Ar-Pharazôn the kingdom of Númenor is now officially under the sole rule of Tar-Míriel. In practice, the position of the Faithful remains precarious and unpopular. She doesn't have the support to outright reverse her subjects’ misguided course, but now at least she has an opportunity to start fixing that.
Sauron’s powerbase is entrenched in Númenórean society, but it was based on the favour and support of the king. Openly acting against his nominal sovereign would endanger it. It was time to adjust his strategy.
Plotting ensues.
"There Celegorm fell by Dior's hand...but Dior was slain also."
They're important, the myths people tell about themselves, about their histories. You can learn a lot from a tale or seven.
A batch of new slaves is brought to the mines, one of them is going to make an impression on both Mormirion and Sharû.
Faranwe is captured by the Dark Hunter, torn from his family and changed forever. But even in Utumno there can be love and light.
Melkor is angry and Mablung knows it is going to be a hard night. But if his pain is what his Master needs to feel better, he'll bear it for him.
Sharû comes home from a raid to find his mother gave birth to twins - and one of them doesn't look like an orc should.
If Melkor could not create, but only corrupt, might dragons have their origins with Yavanna and return to her one day? An examination of the rehabilitation of dragons.
Created for Tolkien Reverse Fandom Bang 2019, for WaywardDesertKnight whose portrait of Yavanna and Ancalagon is included and inspired this work.
Morgoth has found Gondolin and is attacking it. The city is falling. Rôg leads the House of the Hammer of Wrath into battle and to its death, and he, former slave of Angband, also finds his end.
Melian cannot know death. Of her daughters, one embraces it, one rejects it, one accepts it, and one does not understand.
But foresight came upon Felagund…
Summary: The First Kinslaying and its aftermath told by the fighters on both sides and the ones they left behind.
Written for B2MEM 2019 with the prompts: “the War of Telerin Aggression,” battered but not broken (Fëanorians), crippled by worry, bruise (purple), royal (purple), Fëanor was framed.
Side Note: As someone born in the South, but to proud Northern parents, I’ve heard a lot of opinions about the phrase this parody comes from. I was intrigued by this idea even before all the cards were out, and I ended up choosing this card at least partially because I wanted to see what would happen if B14 was ever called. I’m very enthused about writing this out from multiple perspectives.
The tale of how four left the hidden city of Gondolin and only three returned.
Aredhel thinks she's got everything as she wants it, but Turgon has his reasons for allowing her to leave the city and he's not above using manipulation. Glorfindel and Ecthelion are caught in the middle of a political ploy and poor Egalmoth is dragged along for the ride. Throw in some giant spiders and everything was bound to go to hell.
Word of Morgoth’s latest endeavour reaches High King Fingolfin's court in Hithlum, and Fingon the Valiant eagerly rides to Ard-galen to investigate. Of course there is a one-handed, red-haired ulterior motive … Thankfully his Aunt Lalwen, the High King’s sister, comes along to keep things in check.
Story complete: the tale of how Lalwen came to accept Fingon and Maedhros.
Many thanks to Grundy for her excellent and scientifically accurate beta!
A strange ship sails into Lindon. Who could it be?
Maeglin’s point of view after his betrayal and before his death.
Melian and Galadriel share a moment alone.
Celebrimbor is his father’s son.
(snapshots from the life of a more Fëanorian Celebrimbor)
Elladan really wasn't planning to get thrown back in time to Beleriand, but the world didn't bother asking his opinion. Now, he struggles to find a way back home as the First Age unfolds around him. The host of newly acquired relatives, including a great-uncle with a flair for dramatics, sons of Fëanor who insist on being people rather than historical villains, and a several-times great-grandmother with some unexpected skills, just make it more overwhelming.
And where is Gil-galad, anyway? Shouldn't he be around here somewhere?
Fingolfin reads the thoughts of two prisoners to see who is telling the truth.
(reading 'Orcs' first would enrich this)
for the 'Sitcom' challenge "Sophisticated as hell."
As the Ringbearers prepare to depart from Middle Earth, one last question still weighs on Elrond's mind. Gandalf is not sure how to answer it. Six thousand years ago at the Havens of Sirion, the twin sons of Feanor found an answer for themselves: one that spoke of little pity and of no hope at all.
Elrond is not willing to accept it, and Gandalf wonders.
Whenever Celebrimbor dared to dwell on what awaited in the Halls of Mandos, he expected punishment. He was no Kinslayer, but some of his deeds in life might be considered grave crimes in their own right.
He had been wrong. When the Doomsman summoned the fëa that once was the son of Curufin to his grim presence, all he asked was a simple question.
"Tell me a story."
Celebrimbor could not help but obey.
The tale, in his own words, of how a young Celebrimbor rode to war for the first time, and began the slow disintegration of his relationship with his father.
