This story is lovely--there's such a contrast between the warmth and gentleness of the couple, despite what they've endured, and the hardness that Maedhros and Maglor have learned. Also, the slow reveal of Maedhros' various scars was really effective. I'll admit, I don't think I'd ever seriously considered the possibility of his remaining hand being badly damaged, making his already-difficult recovery and adjustment even harder. 

Another thing I really enjoy about this is that you manage to capture the awkward places in conversation without the writing itself becoming awkward. That's not easy!
