Nerdanel seems a very good choice to be the one to make the discovery, as she was an explorer of Valinor in her youth and her sympathies can be expected to be broad. We hear that she is about understanding people. This situation is quite the challenge, but she seem to be handling it well so far!

A day's travel from Tirion seems quite close, but I guess it's in a direction that people don't usually go? I like the description of the landscape a lot!

I’m glad you liked it! I debated between Finrod and Nerdanel as the best person to discover the reborn orcs but thought she’d be best. Never having been to Middle Earth, she isn’t prejudiced against them and has an understanding soul.

Since Valinor would be tropical (Valmar is on the Girdle of Arda, i.e. the equator), I’ve based the Pelori foothills off of the Himalayan foothills which are covered by subtropical forests and are full of interesting flora and fauna (like tigers!). Tirion is not far away, as the crow flys (less than ten miles), but the hills are steep, with a dense understory. They’re difficult to traverse without experience and few Elves of Aman ever venture far into them.
