Prayers
“Let him be mine. It is unfair that my sister gets everything – the attention, the education, and now the Prince. I saw him first…” Culdanis wept and prayed into her pillow that night as she had each long night for many months before.
But her sister won the heart of the Prince, and his love and his devotion.
Yet, when he stood and made the Oath that doomed him and his sons, and she stood next to her sister holding her as she wept, she prayed a fervent “Thank you” that her long-ago prayer had been unanswered.

There's something about this snippet -- it's so short, but compresses so much into those few words: Culdanis, the relationship between the sisters, how Nerdanel's marriage ended. Poignant, but lovely.
