Nerdanel came to see Indis, feeling weary after her wedding month with Fëanáro. They made an odd pairing, ruddy-cheeked smith and queenly Vanya, watching the Light of Laurelin brighten.
“What causes you to seek me out, Nerdanel?” Indis asked eventually, to break the odd silence.
“Finwë,” Nerdanel ground out, “did he teach his son nothing?”
Indis blinked. “What do you mean?”
“When we joined, he was surprised. Fëanáro asked why I bled! He was expecting pollen to show I was fertile!”
Indis laughed uneasily. “Finwë told him of the bee and the flower. I suppose he took his atar literally?”

“So, we meet again, Nerdanel.” Indis turned her gaze to the younger nis, eyes dark with their shared sorrow. “We really should not keep on like this; it is not seemly.”
Nerdanel smiled bitterly. “What of it? Our husbands and sons are lost. Who will speak against it, the Valar? We are alone. Unless you wish to go back to your people?”
“Would I leave you alone?” Indis shook her head, drawing Nerdanel into her embrace. “Let us hence to Lórien.”
Widowed and sundered, the queens of the Noldor traveled together as their children and grandchildren made their way eastward.
