A True Lord of Gifts by Flora-lass
Fanwork Notes
This arose from an instadrabbling session at Alliance of Arda, and is very much inspired by the work of chrissystriped and elennalore - and chthonion. My first ever writing (all 200 words of it) about Annatar!
For the prompts 'Father Christmas' and 'gift-giving', from the Midwinter board. It also fits the 'Sauron' prompt on the 'Villains...or are they?' board, I think. :)

A True Lord of Gifts
Read A True Lord of Gifts
Annatar knelt before the One, head bowed.
‘What must I do, to earn forgiveness?’ he whispered.
‘What would you do, if you could choose?’
Annatar already knew the answer. Slowly he raised his head, and replied in a clear voice:
‘I would be a true Lord of Gifts.’
‘There would be a long apprenticeship. Are you prepared for seven ages of toil?’
‘I am ready,’ Annatar said, though his heart sank. He was not afraid of hard work, but he did not like being told what to do.
‘Then go, and perform a different task in every age, until you truly understand what it means to be a Lord of Gifts. Learn to stack, and wrap, and despatch, and deliver. Only then will you be permitted to make, as I know you long to do, and design and direct. Once a year, my messenger will come to ascertain your progress, and report to me. When the seven ages are ended, we may meet again.’
Annatar sighed, inwardly. This was sounding harder by the second. A whole age of wrapping presents! But he knew the One was right.
He rose, and bowed. Squaring his shoulders, he set off for the warehouse.
Chapter End Notes
The instadrabbling prompts were 'different, year, messenger, come'.
Oh my gosh!! Annatar as…

Thank you! There's a long, long way to go - but perhaps he'll make it... :)
Annatar thought that being a Lord of Gifts would be easy....
....but Eru tells Mairon he must start from the bottom, at the most menial level of distributing gifts - P&P (post and packing). He will be at these tasks for some time before he gets to the joyous part of gift giving (which for him is creation and making, of course)!
Thank you so much for…
Thank you so much for commenting! And even before he gets to the packing, he's got to stack shelves snd pick orders. I wonder what his colleagues will make of him?
Love it! 😄

An entire age of wrapping…
An entire age of wrapping presents sounds like a gruelling punishment to me, lol. But I love the idea that he has to earn his way up to the privilege of making. Perfect little redemption ficlet for happy holidays feels.
