Day 26: Happy Holidatys

Headcanons on holidays (or lack thereof!)

One of my headcanons for Celebrimbor in particular is that he does not celebrate holidays like others do. This is a combination of his refusal to step away from his projects and his history--after all, his grandfather was murdered and the Oath was taken on a major holiday! But Celebrimbor does not stop to think about that; he blames it on his work and his "passion."

Additionally, most of my works with Celebrimbor are set during the Second Age. While it is conceivable that some holiday traditions would carry over from the First Age, from looking at, for example, my country's holiday calendar, many are from the last hundred years.

However, I do not think it is entirely fair to say no holidays would be carried over--I think the Elves would lose most of theirs in the destruction and reshaping, but the Dwarves would not. Celebrimbor may very well observe Dwarven holidays, since those would be essential to maintaining relations; Thain's Book notes Durin's Day as a known Dwarven holiday, which I agree with, but I'm not sure about the others that would exist (https://web.archive.org/web/20080107110112/http://www.tuckborough.net:80/days.html). Perhaps my next project can be making some~
