Amilessë, the mother-name, is a name of insight, but also foresight. I often read that Atarinkë came to his mother-name because of the similarities to his father. This was a far to one-sided explanation for me, and I took the idea on a spin.

What a painful but interesting direction to expand that canonical note in! I've always thought that Curufin would be eager to attempt to live up to his father (if not without reservations, due to Fëanor being such an idolized figure), but there is a lot of plausibility in this scenario as well. Very nice!
