infin che 'l mar fu sovra noi richiuso by Feanoriel
Fanwork Notes
First of all, I want to thank @ Avbi and @kanako91 for all the conversations about the matter, and @ feanoriansappreciation for the beta-reading!
Second, a little warning: for my headcanons about the Akallabêth and the last rulers of Númenor, I tend to use the version contained in the History of Middle Earth, Vol. XII (at the chapter 'History of Akallabêth'), in which Ar-Pharazôn and Tar-Míriel fell in love against the will of their fathers and the rules of Númenor, and she took by her own will the name Ar-Zimraphel, instead of being forced to marry Pharazon. So, general warning for Morally Grey! Tar-Míriel and similar stuff, plus general warning for Sauron doing creepy things. If you don't like neither of those things ... well, I guess it's not the right fic for you!
also: I used the Adunaic names of the characters, with some exceptions: like, I prefer to use the Quenya name of Pharazon (Calion) because it sounds more intimate for Miriel's character, used to speak Quenya in her youth, and that adopted the Adunaic after becoming queen. Anyway, a little list of Quenya/Adunaic terms:
-Indilzar / Elros
- Ar- Minalêth / Armenelos
- Zigûr (literally, 'the Wizard') / Sauron
- Azrubêl / Eärendil
-Avalôi / Valar
-Amatthâni / Aman
- Anadûnê / Númenor
- Adûnâim / Númenóreans
etc etc

Summary:
Tales and rumours arose along the shores of the sea concerning mariners and men forlorn upon the water who, by some fate or grace or favour of the Valar, had entered in upon the Straight Way and seen the face of the world sink below them, and so had come to the lamplit quays of Avallónë, or verily to the last beaches on the margin of Aman, and there had looked upon the White Mountain, dreadful and beautiful, before they died. --- J.R.R.Tolkien, The Silmarillion

Five times re-illum'd, as oft
Vanish'd the light from underneath the moon,
Since the deep way we enter'd, when from far
Appear'd a mountain dim, loftiest methought
Of all I e'er beheld. Joy seiz'd us straight,
But soon to mourning chang'd. From the new land
A whirlwind spring, and at her foremost side
Did strike the vessel. Thrice it whirl'd her round
With all the waves, the fourth time lifted up
The poop, and sank the prow: so fate decreed:
And over us the booming billow clos'd."
[Dante Alighieri, Inferno, Canto XXVI]
