Chapter 1

Another drabble for Stories100; the prompt was 'triumph'. (Also, Curufin was very sorry there was not more room to elaborate on Celegorm's sulking, petulant display.)

Read Chapter 1

Curufin, engrossed, watched his father instruct Celegorm in his workshop. He absorbed every word, hoping this vigilance would disprove Fëanor's opinion he was too young for such lessons. His brother wasn't as attentive; the gem he was faceting split under his chisel.

"You bear down too heavily, open your stance," Curufin freely observed. Fëanor looked sharply at him.

"Could you do better?" snapped Celegorm, reddening.

Curufin traced the stone's rough planes. He angled the stonecutter carefully, giving it three assured taps. Stone slivers fell away, perfect facets revealing brilliant color and sparkle. Curufin beamed triumphantly at his father. Fëanor smiled.
