This is set in the early years of Arnor, after the Downfall of Numenor but before the re-emergence of Sauron.

The story features a recurring original animal character, but can probably be read on its own. More on the previous appearance of this OC in the end notes.

Your descriptions of crossing the frozen river are fantastic--and I especially love Maglor automatically starting to write music in time to the fox's footsteps! I also really love the idea of a fox deciding to more or less adopt Maglor, for reasons of its own. It's a really delightful image!
