True Gift
Only looking back can I hear that unctuous quality of your voice, see that insincerity in your smile.
Death yields clear vision - too late.
Here, amidst the blood and the pain and the betrayal, I can finally see the lies and the hate and the folly.
Too heavily lies the love of craft and the want for knowledge and the inclination to trust on me.
Too heavy is this curse of mine, and of my fathers.
And if I were wrong, I was not the only one.
Know this, Annatar, Master of Treachery.
This last is your only true gift.
Chapter End Notes
unctuous:
1. Insincerely or excessively suave or ingratiating in manner or speech; marked by a false or smug earnestness or agreeableness.

Ouch! Very nice ... in a bloodied, painful sort of way. ;) There's a lot going on in these hundred words--very commendable--and yet, it remains a powerful drabble. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks! I think "Very nice ... in a bloodied, painful sort of way"-type responses have become my goal, judging by the content matter of the majority of my stuff. Soon, the system will wise up and just automatically add "death" and "violence" to everything I post. ;)
I'm glad it worked! Funny the things one fins on one's hard drive... I wasn't 100% sure about this one; I was tempted to edit it, but decided to post it as-is, and perhaps just post a second drabble if/when this gets edited.

Sad, creepy, heartbreaking, with a dose of reality. Excellent drabble. Love the play on words in the title relating to Annatar's name and a final realization of the truth.

Very good. This is what I think a perfect example of a drabble. Thanks for sharing :)
