I'm very glad that you did.

They must have lost so horribly many in the ice. How much more it must have hurt for a people not used to death.

'No love was there in the hearts of those that followed Fingolfin for the House of Fëanor..' - one of Tolkien's dramatic understatements.

They knew that to stop for too long was to court certain death, as this elf had.

I like the urgency you've imbued into this middle section. It's a necessary evil that they don't have time to stop and bury their dead. But at the same time you've managed to keep the first and last sections peaceful and serene, with some quite lovely descriptions.

I also like the way you kept this particular elf unnamed: he seems to symbolise all the 'anonymous' elves who died without making it into the 'histories' of the Silmarillion.

Very true. It reminds me of that saying "The winners write history". In this case, only the stories of the famous ones are recorded.
