Tolkien Meta Week Starts December 8!
Join us December 8-14, here and on Tumblr, as we share our thoughts, musings, rants, and headcanons about all aspects of Tolkien's world.
Instadrabbling submission from February 17: The weather is changing. Manwë has something to say.
Varda slumped down onto the seat of her throne. "Darling, they've broken it," she declared. "They're calling for a new hurricane category. Thought the Lord of Storms might want to know."
Manwë moved to the edge of his seat, fidgeted restlessly considering her words, then rose like a thundercloud, eyes flashing.
Peering down the sheerest precipice to the world below, he saw the truth of his wife's words. Where erstwhile the eastern coast of Aman would have stretched, now another landmass lay hidden beneath a nightmarish swirl of cloud and wind. "You're right," Manwë declared, sounding resigned. "They've broken it."
So scientists have been calling for a Category 6 on the Saffir-Simpson scale in response to stronger storms due to climate change. The landmass of formerly Aman is of course the US, which Tolkien at one point imagined to take that physical place after the removal of Valinor from the world.
